About Hood River, Oregon

History and Attractions

The city of Hood River, Oregon is located on the Columbia River.  Known as a sports mecca around the world Hood River is one of the world’s best locations for wind and kite surfing. It’s also a popular destination for foodies, craft beer and wine lovers who love to sample fare from Hood River’s local hot spots.  Hood River is also famous for its apple, pear and cherry orchards.  In fact the original Native American camp site found by Lewis an Clark was named “Waucoma” or “place of big trees”.  You can take a drive through these famous orchards on what is known as the Hood River Fruit Loop.

Located between two climates Hood River is typically warm in the summer and rainy in the winter averaging 30 inches of rainfall a year.  With an easy 50 minute commute into Portland and 30 minutes to Mt. Hood Meadows, Hood River is a perfect place to call home (or second home!) for those who love to work and play in the great outdoors.
