About White Salmon, Washington

History and Attractions

With an amazing view of Mt. Hood, White Salmon, Washington is located on a bluff overlooking the Columbia River and across the bridge from Hood River, Oregon. White Salmon was land originally part of the Klickitat Tribe.  In 1853 Erastus and Mary Joslyn were the first settlers and purchased the land from the Klickitat’s. After the Yakama Indian War the Klickitat Tribe became a part of the Yakama Nation.  

White Salmon’s outdoor activities include wind and kite surfing, hiking, cycling, skiing, and rafting. White Salmon’s rivers are among the world’s top destinations for whitewater rafting and home to the class V waterfall, Husum Falls.

 

The small town of White Salmon boasts local wineries, cafés, restaurants, and boutiques. Portland is an easy 60-minute commute.
