Boardman was homesteaded in 1903 by Samuel Herbert Boardman who was the first Superintendent of the Oregon State Parks System. Samuel is also the creator of the “rest stop,” planting trees to make roadside stops for travelers along the highway. Located on the Columbia River, Boardman is an agricultural community and a major hub for the transportation of goods at the Port of Morrow. For the adventurous, Boardman also offers fishing, boating, windsurfing, and hunting. The town of Hermiston and Umatilla are nearby.
